Industrial vacuums for depowdering stations in post-processing for additive manufacturing.
Read and download our case study3D printed components cannot be used immediately after printing, but it is necessary to subject them to post-processing operations (such as dust removal, sanding, and surface finishing), which in most cases are performed manually. Proper post-processing of components is essential to improve their final quality, ensuring high functionality, aesthetics, and precision.
Customer requirements and our proposal
Our client specializes in post-processing machinery designed to clean 3D printed components inside sealed stations manually. These cleaning booths allow operators to safely and efficiently remove residual dust and refine surfaces. Our industrial vacuums can be perfectly integrated into these systems, ensuring the effective collection of both reactive and non-reactive dust generated during post-processing operations.
How do post-processing cleaning stations work?
Post-processing cleaning stations are designed to safely handle, clean, and improve the quality of 3D printed components while minimizing environmental hazards and protecting operators from inhaling hazardous particulate matter.
The operator works without coming into direct contact with the particles, inserting his arms, protected by appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), inside the machine’s sealed work chamber. All cleaning operations take place in this closed environment, ensuring maximum safety. Before the machine can be opened, an automatic cleaning cycle removes any residual dust.

Powerful solutions for every type of powder
Different types of powders are used in 3D printing, divided mainly into reactive and nonreactive, depending on their chemical properties and the level of risk associated with their handling.
Depending on the type of dust handled, it is essential to choose an industrial vacuum cleaner with specific features to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Non-reactive powders
These materials present a lower risk in terms of reactivity, but can still generate health-threatening particulate matter if inhaled. Some examples include:
- Stainless steel
- Cobalt-chrome
- Copper
- Polymers and resins
It is essential to handle these materials with caution, taking the right precautions to protect the health of operators and prevent risks from inhaling dust.
